Gifts:
Your presence is gift enough, but if you feel so inspired:
We are lucky to have a lot of garden and forest in Occidental, and would love wild and wonderful objects to place around it. Art, sculpture, furniture, pots, places for Fay to play. Feel free to check out the land during the wedding and come up with ideas after. Or if you have a favorite book you want to share and perhaps inscribe for our library. Or whatever else strikes your fancy.
Phone-Free Shabbat:
Shabbat is the Jewish day of rest, a 24 hour time period from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday (the most important jewish holiday, and it happens every week!) where you put aside work and technology, and get to enjoy the world as it is. This is a very special practice to us, and we invite you to join us in putting phones down and being present to nature and the community all around us. We tell you this now to invite you to consider how you can allow this in your schedule. We will have an emergency phone number for our staff where you can be reached, and for those with kids at the camp you will be reachable through staff by radio.
What the Shtick?!
In the Jewish tradition, after the bride and groom are wed, the guests entertain the newlyweds with a shtick. A shtick is a lighthearted performance meant to bring laughter and joy — it can be anything from a silly skit, parody song, or choreographed dance, to juggling, costumes, or playful props. The goal is to surprise and delight the couple with something fun, funny, or heartfelt.
Everyone is welcome to participate but not required — the more creative and joyful, the better! Throughout the weekend, we’ll have opportunities to support anyone who wants to create a shtick or to jump in with a group that’s already planning something. The shtick will occur after the wedding and following cocktail hour on Sunday.
No Pets Policy:
We love your furry friends but there is a strict no pets at the CYO Camp and at 1101 Bohemian Lane.
