Happy Birthday to me!

Yup I’m 25 now, guess I’m no longer a child anymore, might need to grow up one of these days, lol.

I wanted a really simple birthday and I got one, finally everyone listened to me. Just had a nice dinner, opened a few gifts while having some cake, it was nice.

I got a new tool bag since I’m exploding the sides on the one I already have, too much stuff in there. I also got a nice pilsner beer glass and a trip to go meet and pet some penguins in NJ which is going to be really fun. Gotta love the penguins.

Just Hanging Around

Going to work after coming off a four day weekend sucks. All weekend I have been getting up around 3pm and going to bed around 5am, but now I have to be up by 7am. Boo.

Posting has been slow lately due to the fact that I am just hanging around and not doing much. Jamie still plays some indoor soccer but that’s about it. Hopefully the holidays coming up will give more to post about. For now my nights consist of playing some video games or doing laundry, nothing post worthy.

Walkway Over The Hudson

First let me just say wow, It’s been an entire month since I made a post, and I’m even late with this one.

Last Tuesday my parents wanted to go walk the Walkway Over the Hudson after work so I joined them. It was a nice day out, sunny and cool. Luckily we found a parking spot on the street right near the entrance and didn’t have to walk a few blocks before walking the bridge.

I really cannot describe the sites I saw while I was up there. I have never walked the Mid-Hudson bridge before, and even that has a crappy view because of the cars on one side and the high fences on the other. I rowed in high school on the river so I was used to the nice sites off in the distance, but the vantage point you have of being all the way up there is amazing.

We sucked it up and walked the entire bridge back and forth. The bridge spans approximately 1.25 miles, so it made for a nice 2.5 mile walk. The wind picked up as the sun set behind the mountains on the Ulster County side so it was a bit chilly on the way back, but we didn’t mind.

It was fun walking across, I have always like to walk around when the scenery was right. Now all I need to do it motivate myself to jog across it weekly for exercise, maybe even hit the store and get bikes for Jamie and I so we can ride across.

The Way Not To Start Vacation

As some of you may or may not know, I play soccer. I just recently joined a co-ed soccer league at Golds Gym. The competition is pretty tough, but I ended up being on a great team. There are a lot of talented men and women on my team.

The day before vacation I had a soccer game. The soccer game was going great until the last 15 seconds of the game. I went to kick the ball down the line and heard a crack when I put my foot down. I hopped around for a minute then went to the ground because I was in a lot of pain. My team was very supportive and helpful. They stopped the game and came to my side right away. Unfortunately, I could not walk this one off. I had to be helped off the field and into Joe’s car so he could take me to the emergency room. The referee came over and said “I think we’re just going to call the game because there is 15 seconds left”. I cannot believe the day before vacation I injure my ankle with 15 seconds left in the game when I have never broken or sprained anything on my body ever before.

Well as it turned out, my ankle was not broken. I had a sprain. They gave me an ace bandage, crutches, and some medicine for pain. Although it was not broken, it was still really inf lammed; my ankle was 3x the size it was normally. I did not get out the emergency room until 2:00 in the morning.

The next day I had a follow up appointment with the orthopedist. He agreed with the hospital’s opinion on the sprain and gave me a walking boot that he requested I wear for 3 weeks. I did not wear the boot for more then 2 days. After the second day, I took my pain medicine and hobbled around Miami Beach.

I am very happy that my leg was not broken and that I did not need a cast!

I got to go in the pool and the beautiful blue ocean!

We also ended up wining the soccer game!

Graduated From Dutchess Community College

Today I had a chance to go down to the registrar at the college and finally fill out my graduation paperwork. I don’t really know why I slacked off last semester and didn’t do it then, but here I am now and its filled out.

What does this mean? It means I can officially call myself a college graduate. I worked hard over these past four years going to school and work, more than one job during most of it too. I earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Information Systems and an Associate of Science degree in Information Management. While I was at it, I earned a certificate in Web Administration too.

I have three other certificates I am working on. All I need is one class waivered per certificate and I will have all three to add to my list. They would be in Computer Networking, Computer Software Support, and Business Programming. I know my professor will waive these classes for me, I have taken almost every class in his department (not kidding). Also it’s not really my fault that the courses I am missing haven’t run in over five years. I hope I can meet with him soon to go over things and don’t have to wait until August to see him again.

I am off to do a little celebrating, very minor scale. Today was a really good day. Nice and sunny with a feeling of accomplishment in the air.

One Year No Smoking

I was rummaging through old posts and realized that around this time last year Jamie and I both stopped smoking.

Well we both have made it one full year with no slips. We went completely cold turkey and are still smoke free. I must say it feels good to stick to something this beneficial. It also helps looking at today’s cigarette prices, glad I’m not paying near $8 a pack.

We Chose Our Summer Vacation Spot 2009

Jamie and I chose our vacation location early this year, due to the fact that we are traveling by plane. I don’t know why I started to look here, but it’s a spot you just can’t go wrong with.

We chose to go to Miami Beach this year. Ah yes, I cannot wait to be there. If only July can come sooner. I booked the hotel and the flight together on Hotels.com last night, got a great deal. Just for booking both we got $250 off the whole order, and two of the nights were free at the hotel. Our second choice was Ocean City, Maryland, but that was more expensive than Miami, even with us driving versus flying.

We are staying at the Fontainebleau Resort. From what I have been hearing it’s a pretty snazzy place. When it comes to hotels I go for location, not really amenities. I could care less if was a shack with a leaky roof, as long as it was right there on the beautiful beach. Who actually spends enough time in the hotel to care anyway right? Hey it’s not Poughkeepsie, its warm and on the beach, the rest is just extra really. When choosing this hotel, I did notice it was rated four and a half stars, so I think we are in for a big treat. There are four actual hotels that make up the place, including a bunch of restaurants, a spa, pools, and of course the beach for the backyard. Christmas Tree Burning Party

This past weekend Jamie and I went to one of her co-worker’s annual Christmas tree burning party out in Pawling. Annette and her husband Joe threw the party at their house with a bunch of their friends and neighbors. The party has become an annual ritual around this time since they moved into their home. This was the first time Jamie and I attended such an event, but it turned out to be very fun. I mean how can you go wrong with beer and fire?

I will say that it is absolutely amazing how fast the trees go up. It takes only about 30 seconds for all the branches to burn to ash. The heat gets so intense that you feel like you are getting a sunburn when you are 20 feet away, through your jacket, and over the 30 degree temperature outside. The flames easily reached over 12 feet with each tree, making it quite the spectacle of falling ash and smoke in the sky.

Acura Is Half Paid Off

While doing the bills tonight, I realized I just made the 30th payment on the car, completing the first payment booklet. I can’t believe it’s been two and a half years already. Seems like we just got the car in the summer. Well since this is our first car together I guess this is some sort of milestone, apparently important enough for me to blog about it.

How’s Everyone Doing Out There?

It has been getting really tough lately. Yeah I know, old news, but its starting to get worse faster than before. So I just have to ask, how is everyone? Work has been doing great until now. There has been so many lay offs everywhere else that we just have less people working to mess their computers up. It’s starting to scare me because I would hate to have to get a part time job somewhere. That’s even if I could find a part time job out there now, which just adds to the scariness.

Well Christmas is just around the corner, something to look forward too. Good thing I did 90% of my shopping before Thanksgiving so not much left to worry about there. Online shopping has had great deals lately. I have always hated going to the mall on the slowest day possible, so you can imagine how I avoid the mall now. I just cant deal with that many idiots shoved into one area, drives me to the point of almost having a heart attack from frustration.

Sunday is our four year anniversary. Seems like it has been much longer. I have to pick somewhere fancy-schmancy to eat that we haven’t been to yet. I’ll remember to take some pictures of the restaurant I choose for all of you.

Just Want To Say Hi

Hello world! Still here.

It has been a very long time since I last posted. Not really that long but too long for my liking. In an ideal world I would post every three days or so, maybe even everyday if I did more exciting things to write about.

Jamie and I have just been very busy lately with school and work, barely finding time to do anything. Besides the boring yard work and soccer that I already wrote about too much, there isn’t anything that I really can write about that anyone (including myself) would want to read. Oh yeah big highlight, cleaned the fish tank the other day; fun, fun. See what I mean, not quite a compelling story. I have been able to accomplish a few more websites and I am in the works to sell some domain names at serious prices. One domain can literally erase half my debt which would be awesome.

Thanksgiving is coming up and I believe we are traveling out to Long Island to our relatives on our father’s side. We haven’t seem them in awhile so it will be nice. Can’t wait for the food! This nice long weekend gives me some time to catch up on things and get squared away before I am bombarded with end of the semester tests over the following two weeks.

I will try and video the next indoor soccer game and see how it comes out, would be fun to watch it online. Now I just need some kind reader to send me a camcorder for Christmas so I can really video tape stuff and play it on the blog.
